# Importing Quiz Attempts
How students’ quiz attempts come across from Canvas and join the grading queue.
When students submit a quiz in Canvas, TimelyGrader imports their attempts automatically; there’s nothing to export or upload. Each attempt brings the student’s written answers, for you to grade, and the scores Canvas gave the auto-graded questions, shown for reference.

## Checking that attempts have arrived

### Open the quiz
On the Quizzes page, click the quiz.

### Check the Attempt Status
In the right sidebar, under **Final Submission Grading & Feedback**, **Attempt Status** shows how many attempts are **Pending review** and how many are **Completed**.

### Bring in the first attempts if needed
If no attempts have come across yet, the main button reads **Import Submissions**. Click it to bring them in from Canvas.

### Wait while attempts are prepared
While new attempts are processed, the sidebar shows **Preparing submissions…**. When they’re ready, they join the queue and the **Pending review** count rises.

### Start grading

## FAQ
A student submitted after I started grading. How do I get their attempt?
Use Import Additional Submissions. See [Importing Additional Quiz Attempts](/canvas-support-articles/quizzes/additional-quiz-attempts.md).
Attempts won’t import.
A criterion and a question don’t line up. Open the quiz, click Edit, and resolve the mapping on the Questions tab; a question without a criterion reads None assigned yet.
An auto-graded score looks wrong.
Fix it in Canvas. TimelyGrader only shows those scores, so the total on screen matches your gradebook.
