# Reading attempt history

Every attempt a student submitted, in order, with the final accepted answer clearly marked.

## Before you start

* Retries are allowed. With no retries, each question has one attempt.
* You know whether retries are per question or per whole attempt. History is shown the same way.

### Pick a student

Students are listed on the left. Select one to see their attempts.

### Read each attempt

Each question lists every submitted attempt in order, with its recording or written answer and its transcript. Attempts are numbered, so you can see what changed between them.

### Find the final answer

The final accepted attempt is labelled. It’s the latest attempt the student confirmed, and it’s the one you grade. Students can’t pick an earlier attempt as final.

### Use earlier attempts for context

Earlier attempts show how an answer developed, especially after feedback. They aren’t graded and don’t lower the grade.

## Troubleshooting

You shouldn’t. Try as Student attempts are never saved. Refresh the page.

The student left before confirming. The attempt stays incomplete rather than being treated as final.

## FAQ

<summary>Can students see their earlier attempts?</summary>

They see their attempts during the activity. Once they continue, earlier attempts can’t be selected as final.
