1) Importing Courses
1) Importing Courses
If you are trying to import courses, you will need to make sure you have the 'Teacher' role on the Canvas course you are trying to import. See below.
If you are a 'Teaching Assistant', 'Designer', or 'TA', you will not able to import a course from scratch. You will need to wait until your Instructor imports the course and invite you to the course.
If you do not see your course in the dropdown, please make sure you have the 'Teacher' in the course you are trying to import. You can then try to relaunch TimelyGrader from Canvas.
2) Importing Assignments
2) Importing Assignments
TimelyGrader currently only supports Assignments on the Assignments tab on Canvas. That means, we are not able to import Quizzes or Discussion Boards. When you import submissions, they may show up and we are working to filter out the Quizzes and Discussions Boards to avoid confusion.
If you launched TimelyGrader and then created an Assignment, you will need to re-launch TimelyGrader so that it can fetch the latest list of Assignments.
3) Importing Submissions
3) Importing Submissions
Students submitted multiple files but TimelyGrader is only detecting one of them. Currently, TimelyGrader only supports one file per student. This means that if a student submitted 2 files as part of their submission, only one file will be imported. We are actively working on support multiple files per submission.
Students submitted another submission on top of the one I imported. What do I do? If a student created another submission for the same assignment but you have already imported the last batch of submissions (including the old submission from the same student), you can click on 'Import Additional Submissions' so TimelyGrader can retrieve and update the student's submission with the new file.
Nothing happens when I click on 'Import Submissions'. Occasionally, the connection between TimelyGrader and Canvas can timeout. This causes the majority of importing and exporting issues. When the connection is timed out, you should see an alert message notifying you to re-launch. If you choose not to re-launch, the connection is timed out. Import and exporting will not work while the connection is timed out. We recommend re-launching TG from Canvas and try again.
There is student work that needs to be imported but TimelyGrader is not detecting any new submissions. When student work is available to be imported and TimelyGrader is saying there isn't, it is most likely because the student submitted a file that is not compatible with TimelyGrader. For example, a .pages file. TimelyGrader filters out files that it cannot support before they are imported. We recommend asking the student to submit a file type that TimelyGrader can support (.docx, .doc, .pdf, .pptx, .ppt, .mp4, etc).
4) Exporting Grades
4) Exporting Grades
When exporting grades, it is important to ensure that the connection is not timed out. If it is, TimelyGrader will not be able to validate if the rubrics are synced and a 'rubric is not synced' alert will show up. We recommend re-launching TG from Canvas if you know the rubric is synced but this message is showing up.
