# What students see in their feedback

Every comment quotes the passage it came from, and students can ask Hugo about any of it — but never for a rewrite.

{% hint style="info" %}
Nothing reaches a student until you confirm the submission. Draft feedback is separate and never counts toward a grade.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

* Your instructor has released feedback. Work still being graded shows as submitted.
* You have the submission open, so each comment can be read against the passage it refers to.
* You know how many draft rounds remain, if the assignment allows drafts.

## Steps

### Comments quote the work

Each note names the criterion it relates to and quotes the sentence it refers to. Clicking a citation jumps to that passage in their draft, so feedback is never abstract.

1. Every note quotes the passage it came from.
2. Hugo explains a comment; it will not rewrite the work.
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### They can ask about a comment

Inquire opens Hugo with that comment and its passage already in context. Hugo will explain what the comment means and what a fix might address — it will not write the replacement sentence.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Each draft keeps its own feedback

When a student uploads a revision, the previous draft and its feedback stay available. Comparing them shows what changed and what did not. The page states how many rounds remain.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Order matters more than volume

Students are pointed at the criterion needing the most work first. A page of marks is harder to act on than three specific ones.

{% endstepper %}

## Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary>I cannot see any feedback.</summary>

It appears once your instructor releases it. Grading and releasing are separate steps.

</details>

<details>

<summary>A comment does not make sense.</summary>

Use Inquire on that comment. Hugo opens with the comment and its passage already in context and will explain what it means.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I disagree with a rating.</summary>

Every rating carries the evidence it was based on. Read that first, then raise it with your instructor — a human decided the band.

</details>

<details>

<summary>I ran out of draft rounds.</summary>

Your page says how many remain. Rounds are per assignment, so another assignment has its own.

</details>

## FAQ

<details>

<summary>Will Hugo rewrite my work?</summary>

No. It explains a comment and what a fix might address. The writing stays yours, and that is what your process record shows.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Did an AI grade me?</summary>

Your instructor decided every rating. The AI proposed bands with evidence, and each one was accepted or overridden by a person.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is draft feedback part of my grade?</summary>

No. It is unscored and exists so you can revise before submitting.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can my instructor see my drafts?</summary>

Yes, along with the feedback given on them. That is by design.
