# Understanding your Settings page

Language settings, course settings, and your own preference settings.

Tired to having to change assignment settings to what you are used to? The Settings page helps save your preferences to save time on setup.
{% endhint %}

## Before you start

* You know whether this change you want to make will apply across courses and assignments or specific to one.
* Remember that institutional level controls set by your Adminstrator may influence how settings can be applied.
* Interface language and feedback language are separate — one is your interface, the other is the students'.

## Steps

{% step %}

### Go to the Settings page

On the bottom left of your page on the side navigation, you will find the Settings button. Click on it to go to the Settings page where you will be able to do the below:

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Change account details and set interface language

<figure><img src="https://3711328535-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVTk0635Lo8R5owJx3bPK%2Fuploads%2Fde23ebfuMxzH19sbYMZm%2FScreenshot%202026-10-13%20at%202.33.24%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=727abccf-90c1-4885-aeb2-8a009688e8f3" alt="Account settings showing fields for first name, last name, and interface language."><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Under Account, you will be able to modify basic account information such as your First Name and Last Name and change Interface Language which changes TimelyGrader for you alone. If you change your language, the page will refresh and load either the English or Spanish UI. Students and other instructors are unaffected.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Change course details and the feedback language

<figure><img src="https://3711328535-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVTk0635Lo8R5owJx3bPK%2Fuploads%2Fu2PlvfNNYLu6aFOcBHXN%2FScreenshot%202026-10-13%20at%202.36.59%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=3cf86561-0ca0-409b-9193-9085fd5c5bee" alt="Changing Course Details such as course name and feedback language."><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Under Course Details, you can create a custom course name, especially if you have a very long course name from your LMS. Changing the course name on TimelyGrader will not impact your course name on the LMS.

Feedback Language decides what language AI feedback is written in. It is per course, so a bilingual programme can differ by section. Only newly processed submissions will have their feedback language changed.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Change account wide details via the Preference

<figure><img src="https://3711328535-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FVTk0635Lo8R5owJx3bPK%2Fuploads%2FHVXZ4lVhHWSy2sJE8AUj%2FScreenshot%202026-10-13%20at%202.39.03%E2%80%AFPM.png?alt=media&amp;token=a26d0746-f6e8-4ede-b981-3ae909aa4087" alt="Preference settings links for grading, feedback, formative feedback, and inline comments."><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

Each section here links to its full settings page — grading, feedback, formative, inline comments. These settings will become the default settings for each of those features; although you can still change them after an assignment is created.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

## Troubleshooting

<details>

<summary>I changed the language and student feedback stayed in English.</summary>

Interface language is yours alone. Feedback language is per course and set under course settings.

</details>

<details>

<summary>A course name change did not reach students.</summary>

It applies to their lobby immediately. If it has not, the save may have failed — the field reverts and says so rather than appearing to succeed.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Student work appeared translated.</summary>

It should not. Student work is never translated; only the interface changes.

</details>

<details>

<summary>A settings link opened the wrong page.</summary>

Each section links to its own settings page. Those set course-wide defaults, which an individual assignment can still override.

</details>

## FAQ

<details>

<summary>Does my interface language affect anyone else?</summary>

No. Colleagues and students are unaffected.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Which languages are available?</summary>

The interface ships in English and Spanish. Feedback language is set separately per course.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do changes here alter feedback already released?</summary>

No. Released feedback stays exactly as students received it.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Where do assignment defaults live?</summary>

Under the grading, feedback, formative, and inline comments sections here. An assignment can override any of them.
